Reading: Held class spelling bees today for the Scripps National School Spelling Bee. Tomorrow, 5 representatives from each color class will be determined to participate in the 6th Grade Spelling Bee, January 4, 2013. School Spelling Bee, February 5, 2013 @ 9:00.

Language Arts: We completed, checked, and collected p.231 #1-22 in their grammar book.  If you were absent, it'll need to be made up when you get back to school.  No additional assignment was given.

12/18 ONLY!  10 points extra credit for bringing a box of tissues to Mrs. Boehme.  Maximum of 20 points for 2 boxes.

Today is 12-12-12! It won't happen again for another 100 years! Do you want to earn 12 extra credit points in one of your classes? You choose. Complete the following:

  1.  Write 12 complete sentences using 12 science words from your study of Microorganisms.
  2.  Make up 12 math problems about adding/subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and solve them.
  3.  Find 12 words that you would like to learn how to spell. Have someone give you a test on your words by Wednesday and show your score to Mrs. Vigil. The words must be challenging for you.
  4.  Type an extra 12 minutes on Edutype.
  5.  Write a list and a brief summary of your 12 favorite books.
  6.  Find 12 interesting facts about the planets and list them. Make sure to cite your sources.
  7.  Write 12 sentences about Christmas in your best cursive handwriting and turn it in to Mrs. Packard.
  8.  Find 12 interesting facts about microbes/diseases. List them and make sure to cite your sources.
  9.  Learn your 12 times tables. Pass off your times tables test for your Falcon Award.
10.  Write a persuasive essay to motivate your peers to come to class prepared every day. Include 12 reasons.
11.  Make a list of 12 presents that you could give your family members that have NO cost. Explain why each present is valuable by writing a complete sentence for each present.
12.  Write a paragraph about your passion. What do you love to do? Write 12 reasons why your love of something is a wonderful hobby, sport, talent, etc.

In order to earn the extra credit, the challenge must be turned in by 12-21-12. If you don't know which teacher to give it to, give it to your homebase teacher. :o) You can earn an extra 5 points of extra credit for Ms. King's class by sending her a direct message in Edmodo that says, "Today is 12-12-12!". Shhhh....don't tell anyone!

Language Arts:  Prepositions Review Quiz: 12/13. Pronouns Wkst: 12/12. Grammar Book Pages 180-181 #1-25: 12/12. Most students finished this in class.

Math:  Progress report sent home today.  All missing work for Unit 3 due by Tuesday, 12/18.  One assignment (3-18) was not on the progress report.  Please check Skyward to see if it is missing.  Those missing 3-18 will also be listed on the board in Mrs. Boehme's room. 

Science:  Study for your Microorganisms TEST tomorrow! Take the practice test, rewatch videos, and study your notes. Your science journal is due on Thursday. Make sure that your Table of Contents is up-to-date.


Spelling Bee:  There will be no spelling test next Monday, 12/17, because of the Class Spelling Bees. Our school is participating in the National School Spelling Bee this year. Five sixth graders will be selected from a Sixth Grade Spelling Bee that will be held Friday, January 4, 2013. In order to select sixth graders for that bee, a Color Class Spelling Bee will determine 5 representatives in each class on Monday, 12/17, and possibly 12/18, if needed.
